I currently live in Wauchope on the Mid North coast and am Treasurer on the Church Council as well as leading some services. I’m a Mum and a Granny. I love catching up with our widespread family as often as I can. I enjoy reading, gardening, walking, knitting, crochet and puzzles and I am looking forward to seeing more of Australia
The story of the father and the 2 sons who choose different paths is a real life story!
Often people make disappointing choices, they don’t always turn out as planned.
The father in this story is like God – loving and forgiving and welcoming.
Lent is a time for making new starts, examine yourself and bring your best to God.
We humans have been given free choice. Sometimes we use it wisely – other times we cause harm and can hurt people.
The latter is is not the kind of life God wants for, and from, us.
God is always looking to call us back to living the way of love. God always offers a 2nd chance if we fail.
Lent is a time when we are called to look at how we are living – is it the example Jesus showed us?
The wilderness is a space where we unearth our innate potential and begin to transform into the individuals we are destined to become.
Lent offers a transformative space that encouraged deep reflection, growth, and connection to a broader spiritual reality.
In this time may we emerge from our wilderness stronger, wiser and ever closer to the heart of God.
As Jesus wandered the dusty roads connecting with people he showed his true humanness.
Then an another event happens and and Christ’s Divinity and his path to Jerusalem looms before everyone.
Fully human and fully divine as required in all its depth, for what the cross and tomb will demand.
Our actions will follow from where our heart leads us to look and see, and what we think about.
What we focus on and what we fill our time and our minds with has a direct effect on what our
instant responses to people and situations will be.
What kind of king was Jesus?
A king who is also a shepherd who knows us, loves and forgives us.
A king who walked dusty roads, served with a towel and a bowl.
A ruler who sees us as his children and walks with us in joys and sorrows.
St Francis of Assisi talked about “always living at the bottom of society, as only there can we really experience the truth.
If we love the poor – the poor one around us and within us – we will increase our compassion for, and act against, injustice”.
Being wise – as opposed to being foolish. Being prepared – as opposed to trusting our luck.
Macro view is having everything in order and just waiting for the time of the return of Christ;
Micro view is being prepared for the daily coming of the Spirit into our lives, drawing closer to God;
and those around us, focusing on the here and now to prepare for the future.
The Spirit has a habit of making people think differently about a situation. The spirit can challenge us directly through many mediums. Jesus was prepared to make the hard choices for the sake of humanity.
Jesus is not not out for what he can get from being a King, he is here to give.
What a paradox: a leader here for the people! A leader who wants to bring truth to the fore.
