3 August 2025 (Year C – Pentecost 8) “Fools for Christ’s Sake”

After instigating a report on poverty and disadvantage, the Bishop of Liverpool was described as a Maxist, a socialist and a communist. He responded by saying that he was simply reading the gospel of Luke.

Luke emphasizes the compassion of Jesus highlighting mercy, equality and inclusion and showing bias towards the poor and disadvantaged.

ALL AGE MESSAGE

Rev Jon Humphries provides an excellent illustration of the temptation to take more than we need at the expense of others, by referring to two bowls of lollies.

Rather than being greedy and always wanting more just for ourselves, being generous means being fair.

Jesus tells us to have just enough and then, to share the extra with others ,asking the question; more for me or more to share?
