22nd February, 2026 (Year A – Lent 1) “Moses & the Job of Cosmic Abundance”
Rainbow over Shetland
For the month of February we have a special treat – a series of 4 extraordinary sermons from David Barrow.
We thought we should recognise the exceptional quality of David’s messages by making them available as a continuous set unpacking Old Testament stories from Joseph to Moses. David masterfully draws out the force of their message as a challenge to the status quo in our own time.
TODAY – In the text, Moses has moved out of the Empire and is in the wilderness with his people living in tents. God provides to their worried minds about the need of sustenance, a rain of bread comes in the morning, so their bellies have food. He assures them hoarding of food is not needed. Abundance in scripture is about how life is organised so that all have enough.
David’s messages, and the All Age Address are not based on the lectionary readings. This means that we will have a 4 week break with the lectionary. If you need to stay with the lectionary readings check at the bottom of this page for the link to the Year A Lent 1 materials from 2023.
You might also consider running a Bible Study series on similar using David’s Feburary resources.
ALL AGE MESSAGE
God provides food for his people now living in the wilderness.
They are just to take the amount they need – no more and no less.
In this ‘economy” story we learn that goodness is about everyone getting enough food for the day and then resting.
